HAPPY FOR THE RAIN

by:  David D. Hambleton

On the departure of my family from Rota, Spain for San Diego, California in September, 2000; as they went ahead of me to visit family.

I’m happy for the rain

God knows how my heart breaks

As I put you on that plane

Oh, Lord knows that my heart aches

As I look out through the window

And our baby blows me one last kiss

Babe, I wonder if you do know

How much all of you I’ll miss

In Elli-baby’s noise and joy

And little Gracie’s twirling dance

But most in your smile, sweet and coy

I find my life’s romance

Outside watching as you take flight,

I’m happy for the rain

It washes away the tears that might

Be showing off my pain
